102nd Anniversary RCAFA Image of Lancaster Lapel Pin.jpg

RCAF 102st Anniversary Lapel Pins

Following a well-established CFB Borden tradition, commemorative pins were produced again in 2025 to mark the anniversary of the birth of the Royal Canadian Air Force on April 1st, 1924.

The aircraft that was selected for this year's 102nd anniversary is the CF-105 Avro Lancaster in honour of our own 441 Wing Member Mac MacDonald, who had flown this plane in WW2, and passed away in 2025.

Canada built 430 Avro Lancaster Mark X Bombers from 1943 - 1945 during the Second World War, a crucial part of the Allied Bombing campaign against Germany. Manufactured by Victory Aircraft Ltd, in Malton Ontario.

These aircraft primarily served with RCAF No.6 Group of Bomber Command in the strategic night-time bombing campaigns over Germany and occupied Europe. There were known for their ability to carry the war's largest bomb payloads. After the war, the Canadian Lancasters continued to serve with the RCAF in various roles, including maritime patrol, search and rescue, and extensive aerial photographic surveying of Northern Canada, until retired in mid 1960's.
